The Clock Silent Disco

Organized in collaboration with the PopRally Committee.

The Clock—Silent Disco

December 20, 2012

The Museum of Modern Art, New York

Featuring DJ sets by John Stanier of Battles and special guests

As The Clock strikes midnight, PopRally hosted a "silent disco" dance party, featuring a DJ lineup organized by John Stanier of Battles.

In celebration of the opening of Christian Marclay's The Clock, guests hit the dance floor wearing wireless headsets through which they could choose between two separate channels programmed by the DJs. Though the room remains silent, guests have a dance party between their ears. Along with DJ John Stanier, the event features sets by That Kid Prolific and Operator EMZ.

Winner of the Golden Lion award at the 2011 Venice Biennale, Christian Marclay's The Clock is a cinematic tour de force that unfolds on the screen in real time through thousands of film excerpts that form a 24-hour montage. Appropriated from the last 100 years of cinema’s rich history, the film clips chronicle the hours and minutes of the 24-hour period, often by displaying a watch or clock. The Clock incorporates scenes of everything from car chases and board rooms to emergency wards, bank heists, trysts, and high-noon shootouts.
